While Presidential campaigns always seem to grab the media spotlight, local elections have a much bigger impact on our daily lives. Recently I got a chance to speak with Virginia Beach City Councilmember at Large Aaron Rouse shortly after he announced his bid for Mayor of Virginia Beach.

Councilman Rouse, 36, was elected to Virginia Beach City council in November 2018.  Aaron is a former NFL player who grew up in Seatack where he was a standout on the gridiron for both Virginia Tech and the Green Bay Packers. I asked him about his candidacy and the importance of the upcoming local races.

“The time is right for unique perspectives that reflects the growing and diverse community of Virginia Beach. I’m not afraid of hard work, with enough passion we can get things done.”

Rouse has served as an official liaison for the “Something in the Water” festival, and will do so again for the upcoming 2020 event. "I can no longer just sit on the sidelines and watch our city basically stay stagnant and not take those bold approaches to technology, affordable housing and transportation. We need to focus on attracting and retaining the next generation of workforce.”
